Heart to Heart

"Hart to Hart" was a TV series that many of us enjoyed watching between 1979 to 1984. The series majored on a married couple by the name of Hart who travelled the world as amateur detectives solving crimes wherever they went. However, the topic that comes to my mind this week is not about a RV series, nor anything fictional, but something that we all carry with us wherever we go. The heart!

It is a major item that keeps our lives running as it pumps the blood around our body. What happens, however, when the heart runs into trouble? Who has the heart to prepare to meet the needs of another persons heart at such a time as this?

Restart a Heart is held every October, where thousands of people across the UK, and many more worldwide, come together to increase public awareness of cardiac arrests and increase the number of people trained in life saving CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and defibrillator use.

The initiative is led by Resuscitation Council UK alongside its partners who join in to ensure as many people as possible are trained in lifesaving skills.

This year, the focus is to resume training where possible (whilst adhering to COVID-19 guidelines), restore confidence in the public to administer CPR and to reach out to new and diverse audiences to enable them to learn CPR

All of us know someone who may need such help at some point. It could be a spouse, a family member, a neighbour, or a friend. Yet many of us would have no idea how to start. What a joy it was when I was approached to see if our church  could be used as a venue this year to give free training in  CPR and so Perry Baptist Church will be open on Saturday 16th October between 10am and 2pm for just that purpose. If you  have the heart to care about the heart of another you will be welcome to drop in for half an hour. As you do so you will be sharing the day with many others throughout the country giving time because they care for another.

Never mind Hart to Hart, this time it is heart to heart!
